John Mayer "Heartbreak Warfare" Music VideoAnother first! John Mayer has just released the video for his new single, "Heartbreak Warfare," in augmented reality.
His site instructs you to print out the marker, turn on your webcam and line the icon up to the image on the screen. Once it's lined up, you're presented with a living room that turns into a battle field (shown above). You, the user, are featured behind the video, holding the marker.
This took me two tries (the first time, John never came!) but that's what happens when you're an innovator. While Mayer is no stranger to digital - he tweets off the hizzle and blogs about his projects - this is a great step for the music world. The experience amplifies users' connection with Mayer by bringing you into his living room (which is a change from bringing fans into his trailer...)
Joking aside, big points for this, and keep up the great work ;)
Watch this video of "the making of" to see how it was filmed and hear John give (actually one of the best explanations I've heard) of augmented reality.
Try it for yourself on John Mayer's site.
