Info-Activism: 10 tactics for turning information into action
Monday, October 26, 2009 at 07:27PM I just came across this initiative by Tactical Technology Collective* (via osocio) and am both impressed and inspired.
"10 tactics for turning information into activism" launches on December 4th at the Front Line Club and will contain interviews with 35 international rights advocates who have all successfully used information and digital technologies to create positive change.
The stories come from countries including Lebanon, India, Tunisia, Egypt, Kenya, Indonesia, South Africa and the UK, and will be featured alongside a deck of cards, "that details info-activism case studies, features tools and provides advice from people about the tactics and tools they have used in different contexts". The goal of the video is to inspire others to dream up and execute their own ideas.
Stories include how an online group in India used Twitter to get blood donors and other essential support to hospitals during the Mumbai Terror attacks, how online karaoke and YouTube videos in Cambodia were used to spread word about the mistreatment and rights of sex workers in Asia, and many more incredible initiatives.
This is a wonderful example of how digital media is being used to make the world a better place. I know it may sound cheesy, but in a landscape being flooded with more and more content (granted, there is a lot of really innovative content being created at the moment with [in most cases] branded utility) it's nice to see a digital initiative dedicated to the greater good.
Very much looking forward to attending the screening.
This is a nice diagram detailing the elements of an advocacy initiative.
