Foursquare Pepsi Points
LOVING this!
Last week I wrote about location-based social network, Foursquare, which uses a points system to promote competition to explore your city. Top scorers are ranked on city leader boards.
Foursqaure has been touted as the next Twitter for its addictive game-play and mayorship. What's really interesting with these new technologies is how people use them, not merely that they're using them.
Lots of businesses have started to offer special incentives to customers who ‘check in’ the most often, for example, the Mayor gets free coffee on Wednesdays, etc.
Yesterday Foursquare announced an even more exciting function that ties points into the real world: a leader board that turns points into dollars and then donates those dollars to local charities.
“This week (starting last night, thru Sunday Dec 13 @ 11:59p), every point added to the foursquare leader board will be lead to Pepsi donating $0.04 to CampInteractive, an organization that helps empower inner-city youth through technology skills and mentoring” - Foursquare. The donation will be capped at $10,000 (10,000 points).
Adam Gillman & Simon Kirk at Techies Give Back are responsible for this initiative. Well done, guys!
