Putting the OLAY! Into Old El Paso

My Husband, My AngelA friend in Toronto just forwarded me My Husband, My Angel, a fake Spanish telenovella which puts the viewer into the drama via Facebook Connect.  Given my love for nachos, I just checked it out and it’s definitely an innovative move by OEP (I’m not aware of other condiment brands using integrated social media and ePR strategies)?

“My Husband, My Angel tells the story of a beautiful woman who’s been forced to marry Alejandro Los Rico, an evil landowner and the richest man in the village of El Paso Viejo. Throughout the show she turns to memories of Roberto, her mysterious man in white, to guide her though the lies, schemes, and deceptions of her manipulative stepdaughter Isabella, brooding pool boy Felipe, and loyal maid Consuela”.

It plays off all the conventions of the telenovella and creates a super chedder cheesy 3-part drama.  The campaign is complete with character bios, a photo gallery and episode guide.  I like the clever partnership with CTV (Canada's largest broadcaster), which makes My Husband, My Angel look like a real show.  I also like the above-and-beyond tackiness of it all.

While no product is mentioned or seen in the episodes, there’s an OEP coupon under the call to join Facebook.  There's also a "brought to you by" OEP message at the end of your customized episodes.

Add some spice to your salsa and check out My Husband, My Angel here.
